Overview
This plugin is aimed at those who desire a better balanced Ark experience, with more realistic and engaging challenges to overcome. It revamps many of Ark's core features, and even adds some of its own. It has been balanced for, and is recommended to play with closer to default server setting rates. If you currently have modified Ark's default server settings, you may want to reset most of them back to or closer to default values- depending on your needs for the type of server you want.
[General Changes Overview]
- A Player's characer size from the character creation menu now effects their base-line stats by default. Some survivors may want to rethink what sort of character they want to play as. The harder to detect smaller hitbox that comes with creating the smallest survivor possible may no longer be worth the opportunity cost in base-line stats to some. On the opposite end of the spectrum, for those seeking a more bold, courageous playstyle- creating a larger survivor may be more fitting with the increased stats to back up the extra weight!
- The amount player and dino stats increase per level up has been standardized relative to the stat's base value as a percentage. The increases per level up are now as follows: Health: +10%, Stamina: +5%, Oxygen: +10%, Food: +10%, Water: +10%, Weight: +5% (+10% for players only), Melee Damage: +5%, Movement Speed: +1%, Fortitude: +2, Crafting Skill: +1% (+10% for players only).
- Player Stamina rates have been adjusted- survivors are no longer quite at the level of olympic athletes by default immediately upon spawning at the beach, with maybe having invested only a few points into the stamina stat. It will take effort building up that level of physique, now.
- Player Fortitude stat level ups will also now help reduce the duration of incoming Stuns, as well as slightly decreasing fall damage taken.
- Player/Dino Oxygen stat level ups will also now help reduce the rate at which Stamina depletes when swimming/flying and not sprinting. For dinos that can carry other creatures, leveling Oxygen will also reduce the amount of Stamina needed to keep them held.
- Player Food stat level ups will also now help increase their base Health regeneration rate.
- Player Water stat level ups will also now help increase their base Stamina recovery rate.
- Dino Food stat level ups will also now help increase their base Health regeneration rate, as well as their base Stamina recovery rate. The rate at which they increase per level are bit lower than for players, since both bonus effects were combined into a single stat for Dinos.
- Players and Creatures now gain experience by any action that uses stamina, such as running or attacking, encouraging a more active play style. This works in conjunction with the newly implemented Stamina System for wild and unridden dinos as well, allowing them to gain some nice bonus xp while going out for a stroll!
- A new death penalty system has been implemented which causes survivors to lose up to a level's worth of experience upon their death. The amount of exp lost can be configured in the Config depending on your server's needs.
[Creature Changes Overview]
- Tamed Dinos no longer have different stats compared to their wild counterparts. (There are a few exceptions where wild dinos can serve as a difficulty barrier check, such as with Gigas, Reapers, and Rock Golems. These few have extra health when wild, though the disparity between their wild and tamed counterparts has been reduced compared to vanilla Ark.) This means tamed dino stat level ups no longer have a compounding effect, which previously allowed for seriously overpowered tames compared to their wild counterparts of a similar level. A wild dino with 50 base Health stat level ups will now have an equal Health pool to a tamed dino with only 30 base Health stat level ups, and 20 tamed Health stat points applied, for example. In addition, wild dino movement speed level ups are no longer 'wasted' points and now function just as they would if they were tamed. Don't let this catch you by surprise, as this can come as an added benefit for any creatures you manage to tame.
- A Stamina System has been implemented for wild and unridden dinos. Creatures that can carry others now require a stamina upkeep to maintain doing so. Wild dinos should no longer have that pesky advantage of never worrying about running out of stamina, allowing for new strategies to be deployed!
- A Hunger System has been implemented for wild carnivores, affecting their overall aggression levels. The hungrier they become, the more desperate and aggressive they tend to be in search of food. Eating another creature's corpse will fill up their food stat, calming their temperament somewhat.
- Wild dinos have had some changes to their AI. Dinos will no longer be recklessly aggressive in pursuing their targets in combat, and will instead attempt to flee at various health thresholds, with smaller creatures tending to take flight sooner in a fight.
- The default wild Dino max spawn level has been increased. With a Difficulty of 5.0, dinos can spawn up to level 400 now, though that should be a fairly rare sight.
- Wild Dinos are now tameable up to level 200 by default, or up to the player's level for passive tames, as those more formidable would likely not be too keen on submitting to some inexperienced survivor anyway. Wyverns, Crystal Wyverns, Rock Drakes, Deinonychus, and Magmasaurs only up to the max tame level can spawn Fertilized Eggs in the wild. Reaper Queens only up to the max tame level will attempt Impregnating Players, and baby Reapers can gain up to 50(reduced from 75) additional levels based on xp earned during gestation now. (Many of these settings and more are configurable in Configs)
- Creatures no longer receive a taming level bonus. This has a few implications- namely no longer having to worry about a stray Raptor ruining your perfect tame with a single bite, and also no longer having such an overpowered advantage over the natural wildlife of Ark with the extra level boost right off the bat. You'll still want to somewhat watch out for dinos in the process of being tamed though, since if the taming efficiency drops somewhat below 10%, the tame progress will reset- causing you to have to start all over in your taming endeavor. That shouldn't happen often though, as it would have to take a serious beating to drop the taming efficiency that low, combined with using some of the lowest quality taming foods. Overall, the taming process should be a less stressful experience now, and should offer more flexibility, such as having more options available to keep your tame from waking up- like using your newly buffed up tamed Scorpion's sting, instead of purely relying on Narcoberries.
- When taming a knocked out creature, players no longer need to keep food in the dino's inventory to avoid its taming progress from rapidly depleting. This should allow players to more freely go out and collect prime meat when taming carnivores for example, without the creature filling up on less effective basic meats in the meantime. This will speed up taming times overall and allow for a less burdensome taming experience.
- While Kibbles are certainly still a viable taming food- being able to tame up creatures faster than any other food can, now that they don't have the added benefit of possibly increasing tame bonus levels received, they have a new secondary effect to help them remain as a sought after resource. Tamed dinos will now receive a dose of experience, as well a boost their imprint quality when allowed to wander and naturally consume Kibbles from their inventory over time. Baby creatures gain double the amount of imprint quality per kibble, but will gain no experience bonus however. You'll want to make sure to allow dinos plenty of space to roam at your new Kibble XP Farm, or they won't gain as much benefit as quickly.
- Dino Experience earned for kills has been adjusted, generally giving quite a bit more per kill than in vanilla Ark, due to it likely being a bit more challening to get kills now. Tamed dinos now gain experience at different rates as well. A larger dino like a Rex will earn less exp than a Raptor would for defeating the same enemy creature, for example. In addition, experience gained from killing baby creatures now scales based on the creature's age to prevent easy exp farming.
- Allowing your tames to freely wander now grants them a bit of additional experience over time for getting some exercise/sunlight as an added incentive to not keeping your dinos locked away the majority of the time. You'll want to make sure to allow plenty of space for them to roam to capitalize on this benefit.
- A Dino Produce System has been added which many creatures can partake in, allowing them to passively convert/generate resources while being allowed to freely roam around when set to Wander. To learn more about specific creature capabilities with this system, see the "Creature Changes" section.
- Dino corpse harvest yields now scale more realistically based on the dino's size- Brontosaurs for instance give significantly more resources when harvested compared to Dodos, etc.
- Nearly every type of creature now has a chance to give either Prime Meat or Prime Fish Meat when harvesting their corpse, based on their level, with higher level dinos having a higher chance. Tek creatures have a chance to give Element Shards instead. Baby fish/aquatic creatures that normally give fish meat no longer have chance to give Prime Meat when harvested, and instead have a chance to give Prime Fish Meat.
- Dino Ancestry Trees can now have up to 50 mutations up from 20, and now have a 3.5% chance per roll for a mutation, up from 2.5%, if the "ASREnableMutagenMutating" Config option is enabled, to help breeding to still be a viable method of training up dino base levels.
- Newly born creatures no longer wander by default, and will now have something it wants for its first Imprint immediately upon arrival, making fully imprinting dinos during their childhood a bit easier and less stressful to achieve. In addition, baby creatures should no longer have quite as high of food drain rates, now being a bit more realistic and manageable to take care of. With these changes in mind, if you alter baby maturation speeds from their default Config Settings, to keep some balance it's recommended to scale the "BabyFoodConsumptionSpeedMultiplier" proportionally so that at least the same amount of food overall will be required to raise a dino no matter how long it takes.
- The Imprinting Quality Stat Bonus for creatures is now 10% per stat, and now applies to ALL stats, including Stamina, Oxygen, and Speed for flyers. The rider bonded buff now increases outgoing damage by 25%, and reduces incoming damage taken by 20%.
- Creatures with Platform Saddles now scale the max number of structures that are allowed to be built on the platform based on their Weight stat. Their movement speed also scales, slowing down based on the percent of total structures currently built upon them.
- Creatures that are smaller or more agile, like those that can jump, tend to take reduced falling damage now.
- Ark's various creatures have been completely rebalanced, giving many dinos various improvements and new abilities. There are too many basic stat value changes and the likes to list here, but feel free to discover these yourself as you play in game. Rest assured, just about every creature has been touched upon. Details on many of the other more unique/function based creature changes can be found under the "Creature Changes" section here though, if you're curious!
[Item Changes Overview]
- Rebalanced the vanilla Item Crafting system. Crafting costs have been altered of many items to be more friendly towards default server harvest settings/rates. Craft/repair times and xp gained from such is now based on the amount of materials needed to craft each item. No longer do certain structures that require thousands of precious resources to create reward a measly 4 or so xp, nor do behemoth of structures craft nearly instantaneously. Additionally, higher quality blueprints will now take longer to craft all of their intricacies.
- Crafting Structures such as the Smithy, Fabricator, Pestle and Mortar, Campfire, Cooking Pot and their Industrial variants now inherit the highest Crafting Skill of the current players viewing its inventory, speeding up how quickly items can be crafted inside. Some of these crafting structures also have a higher base crafting speed even if you don't, such as Smithy and Fabricator, as they would realistically have various tools to help speed along the crafting process.
- Rebalanced the vanilla Engram system. Players now generally receive fewer engram points at lower levels, making choosing what they want to unlock more impactful and strategic. However, players now coninue gaining engram poins into ascension levels, in addition to having a higher pre-ascension base max level by default now, ending players up with more possible engram points in total than they would attain by default overall.
- Saddle Engrams have had their level requirements adjusted to better reflect many of the balance changes from the plugin. They can also optionally no longer cost any engram points to learn- and instead require a sample of the creature's Dermis that the saddle is for to unlock. A Dermis can be obtained like normal with the use of a Taxidermy Tool, which the engram for now automatically unlocks for players upon reaching level 5. Alternatively, any saddle blueprint items players come across from supply drops or any other means can be studied with the 'Study' folder command to unlock the blueprint's correlating Saddle Engram for the player, bypassing the level requirements.
- A Blueprint Upgrading System has been implemented, allowing players to manually upgrade blueprints they find or create themselves for improved stats (Tek Items not included). How quickly and how far a blueprint can be upgraded to depends on the Crafter's Crafting Skill stat. Further instructions on how to upgrade blueprints can be found in the "Folder Commands" section, or within Bookshelf Inventories in-game.
Miscellaneous Fixes
- A player spawn glitch has been fixed where occasionally under certain circumstances, the first player to join a server upon loading would be teleported high into the air from where their body was last left at, causing them to fall to their death.
- Structures with an altered "ConfigOverrideItemCraftingCosts" Ini setting now properly refund a portion of the resources used to create them when demolished, instead of always basing off of the vanilla crafting requirements, which in some cases depending on specified server settings could lead to an unlimited resource farming exploit. As a side effect due to not having a client mod counter part to reflect the changes to, the repair UI of a damaged structure might show innaccurate information on the resources needed for repairs to players. A failed attempt at repairing due to this disparity will pop up a handy notification for players with the correct requirments though. Additionally, a "/repair" chat command has been included for any player to use to help get the correct repair information.
- The default Resource Node Harvesting Quantity system has been improved, allowing the "HarvestResourceItemAmountClassMultipliers" Ini setting to function properly when set below a 1.0 multiplier. (For example, by default if you set the "HarvestResourceItemAmountClassMultipliers" for Stone to 0.5 and harvest a rock node in game that would normally give 4 Stone per activation, instead of giving you 2 Stone after the 0.5x quantity multiplier, you'd get none in vanilla Ark)
- The default Resource Node Respawning Time system has been improved, allowing the "ResourcesRespawnPeriodMultiplier" Ini Setting to function properly when set above a 1.0 multiplier. (For example, by default if you set "ResourcesRespawnPeriodMultiplier" to 2.0, instead of taking twice as long to respawn, some resources can tend to glitch out and stop respawning entirely after being harvested in vanilla Ark)

- Cryopods are now nerfed by default, so that dinos always come out with Cryo-Sickness, even if its the first one you've sent out. To compensate, the amount of torpidity applied to a creature released from their Cryopod now corresponds with the Cryo-Sickness debuff's duration, so that creatures with slow torpidity recovery rates no longer remain asleep even after their sickness wears off by default. These changes were implemented with the goal of making Cryopods mainly into a means to store/transport extra dinos for non-combat scenarios, rather than a tool to transport and deploy a combat ready killing machine for a surprise attack at an instant's notice, even in areas a dino might not normally be able to fit in. This can be undone in the Config if you prefer the default Ark experience you get with default Cryopods instead.
- Gasoline now requires 15x Oil to create 5x Gasoline in Refining Forges. The Chemisty Table method of crafting Gas now yields more Gasoline per craft.

- Mutagel can now be crafted on just about any map, requiring Element Dust, Angler Gel, and Substrate Absorbent in the Chemistry Table.
- Mutagen functionality has been reworked and expanded upon. Using Mutagen grants the creature it's used upon one mutation to a random stat worth 2 base levels. Alternatively if enabled, Mutagen can be used to reallocate base stat points into another stat using the 'Retrain DinoStatName' folder command. This process can be taxing on dinos, however, and causes them to temporarily receive Cryo-Sickness and uses up some of their Food. Make sure they have plenty to eat and are in a safe place!

Folder Commands
- A new 'Folder Command' System has been implemented to enable players to interact with items in new ways without needing a client mod or chat commands. Full documentation can be found in-game within Bookshelf Inventories, and right here below:
- "Upgrade ItemStatName" ("ItemStatName" = "Damage", "Armor", "Thermals", or "Durability") : Place a blueprint that is able to have upgraded stats in this folder, and simply craft it from within to attempt applying upgrades to the specified stat.
- For the following, simply create a Folder with one of the command names below in an Inventory you want to use the command from, and drag any correlating items onto the folder to activate the command.
- "Study" : Any non-tek item Blueprints you come across can now be studied (destroying them) to unlock its corresponding Engram for your player. This bypasses any level requirement or prerequisite engrams normally needed to unlock it, but still requires having enough engram points for the specific engram itself.
- "Transcribe" : You can now Transcribe a new default item blueprint from another item blueprint using this command. Handy for preparing a new blueprint for upgrades using 'Upgrade' folders.
- "Disassemble" : You can now Disassemble already crafted items (destroying them) to create a new default blueprint of the item using this command.
- "Retrain DinoStatName" ("DinoStatName" = "Health", "Stamina", "Oxygen", "Food", "Weight", "Damage", "Speed", or "Crafting") : Mutagen dragged onto this folder is used to deduct one stat point from all other base stats of the creature, and accumulates them into the specified 'DinoStatName' instead.
- "Use" : Allows you to use/consume certain items on the creature/player whose inventory the item is within for a secondary effect. Items that have secondary effects using this command will be listed in their specific info sections, or you can alternatively see an up-to-date list from the corresponding Bookshelf Inventory Info Note in game.

Chat Commands
- "/Repair" : Attempts to perform repairs on the damaged structure you aim at. If you don't have all of the required resources, a notification will pop up, informing you about what you need. Can be useful for any structures that have had their base crafting costs overridden through Ini settings, causing the Client's Repair UI to no longer display accurate info.
- "/StatMindwipe" : Performs a stat-only Mindwipe on yourself, without altering your learned Engrams. Requires a Mindwipe item to activate. Can be customized in the Config to have a separate cooldown length than a default full Mindwipe.
- "/StatMindwipe" : Performs a stat-only Mindwipe on yourself, without altering your learned Engrams. Requires a Mindwipe item to activate. Can be customized in the Config to have a separate cooldown length than a default full Mindwipe.
